POLSON — Fay Haynes, 85, who was recently inducted into the Montana Cowboy Hall of Fame, honored the audience at the Mission Mountain NRA Rodeo with an appearance on her horse on both Friday and Saturday nights.
With more competitors and three more events since the rodeo switched from PRCA to NRA, Polson Fairgrounds Incorporated secretary Una Rose Graham said spectators got more bang for their buck. Attendance was up, too, Graham noted, and the concession stand and beer garden sold out of some items.
On a busy rodeo weekend with contestants traveling between Augusta and Polson, Zanen Pitts, Dixon, roped his calf on Friday night in Polson and then headed to the Indian National Finals Tour Rodeo in Crow Agency.
Pitts said he only placed sixth at the Polson rodeo, but he did well at Crow Agency. He placed sixth in the long go and third in the average, which is good since he is getting married on July 3. The newlyweds wil rodeo at the Arlee Celebration and then Indian Days in Browning as Pitts continues on his quest to place in the top ten in INFR tour or win the region.
A rising sophomore at Polson High School, Wyatt Lytton, another local cowboy, team roped with his dad, Lee Lytton and also competed in the junior breakaway roping. He finished 4th in the breakaway, since he broke the barrier and added an extra 10 seconds to his time.
