SUPERIOR — The Arlee Warriors competed in the 13 Team Superior Invitational Saturday and placed six wrestlers. The Warriors finished in fourth place overall and wrestled tough in every weight class.
Cameron Dominick led the Warrior pack at 130 pounds placing second in the tournament. Cameron defeated Corie Mann of Glacier High School with a 1:23 pin in the quarterfinal match, then defeated Kaleb Lafrancois of Eureka with a 12-7 decision to reach the championship. In the championship at 130 pounds, Cameron lost to Devin Williams of Libby by pin.
Two Warriors wrestlers finished the tournament with third place finishes in their weight classes. Zach Tameler at 140 pounds went 5 – 1 on the day. Tameler defeated opponents from Browning, Plains, Missoula Hellgate, Thompson Falls and Eureka to make it into the consolation final match. His only defeat of the day came in the quarter final match against eventual tournament champion, Kyle Leir of Libby by a 10-2 decision. Also placing third at the tournament was Carter Clinkenbeard in the 145 pound weight class. Carter lost his first match to a Thompson Falls opponent, then came back to win his next three matches to reach the consolation final. In this match, Clinkenbeard met up again with Zach Lyons of Thompson Falls, where he defeated him in a 5-3 decision to take third.
Three Warriors wrestled tough on the day to take fourth place. Leif Rova at 152 pounds went 3 – 2 for the fourth place medal. Rova defeated opponents from Libby, Browning and Glacier. Leif is developing into a very scrappy wrestler. He is trying new things and having some success, but he does need a new pair of shoes. Albert Plant placed fourth in the 160-pound weight class. Plant had wins over competitors from Plains/Hot Springs, Thompson Falls, and Glacier. Plant’s only two losses on the day came from opponents from Libby and Eureka. Albert has gone up a couple of weight classes in the past year and is developing well for a sophomore in the 160-pound class. Clayton Trimble a junior on the Warrior’s team took fourth in the 171-pound class. Trimble bested athletes from Thompson Falls, Browning and Glacier. His losses on the day came at the hands of opponents from Eureka and Libby. Trimble seems to be settling into the very competitive 171- pound class and has the ability to wrestle well. He has improved in a lot of areas, but needs a little refinement to be a fantastic wrestler.
Other Warriors competing in the tournament that wrestled well but didn’t place were Donovan McDonald at 125 pounds, Cody North at 215, Curt Seidel at 285 and Logan Potts at 285. All of these wrestlers have improved this season and continue to get better.
