RONAN – Lance Corporal Thomas C. Parker, of the Third Battalion, Fifth Marine Lima Company of the U.S. Marine Corps and 2008 graduate of Ronan High School, was severely injured in an Improvised Explosive Device blast in Afghanistan.
Parker’s mother, Lisa Jennison and stepfather, Tim Corbett, received news of his injuries Saturday, Dec. 11. They were told that the injuries required amputation of both legs – his right leg at the hip and his left leg above the knee. In an email communication it was also reported that his left hand was amputated at the wrist. Parker was the only member of his patrol who was injured. He deployed to Afghanistan in September.
Jennison describes the last couple days as “every parent’s worst nightmare.”
She said is grateful to her community for the love, support and generosity shown her family and asks “please keep the prayers coming.”
“This community is wonderful,” she added. “I wouldn’t want to live anywhere else.”
Jennison will travel to Maryland this week in order to meet her son when he returns stateside.
“I just want to hold him,” she said “and tell him I love him.”
