Vikings drop first 2 games this season, Lady Vikes fall to Seeley-Swan

It was a tough week for basketball fans in Charlo as the Vikings did something they hadn’t done all season: lose. Not only did the Vikings suffer their first defeat of the season at the hands of Arlee Tuesday, they also suffered their second loss of the season Friday at Thompson Falls.
The Vikings came into the game ranked No. 2 in Class C and looked strong early as they built a 12-7 lead after one quarter of play.
Things began to fall apart for Charlo in the second quarter as Arlee used a 14-6 run to build a 21-18 halftime advantage.
The Warriors took control of the game in the third quarter, outscoring the Vikings 16-3 in the frame to go up 37-21 heading into the fourth.
Several long-range shots and feisty defense helped the Vikings come storming back in the fourth quarter but the Warriors proved to be too much down the stretch as Arlee held on to earn a 48-44 victory.
Chance Rosenbaum led the Vikings in the loss with 12 points while Chico Stipe added 11 and Kolton Andrews had eight points.
Things didn’t go much better for the Vikings at Thompson Falls Friday as the Bluehawks earned a 71-60 win.
The Bluehawks grabbed an 11-7 lead after one quarter and never looked back as they picked up the win. Charlo trailed 30-19 at the half but cut the lead to 10 after the third quarter. Garrett Reinschmidt scored 13 in the fourth quarter for the Bluehawks as Thompson Falls held on to get the win.
The Vikings had four players in double figures in the loss as Rosenbaum finished with 18 points, Andrews had 15, Dillon Delaney added 12 and Stipe finished with 10.
The Lady Vikings opened the week with a win over Arlee but suffered their second loss of the season Thursday as they fell to Seeley-Swan. But the Lady Vikings bounced back with a big win over Thompson falls Saturday.
Charlo grabbed a quick lead against Arlee Tuesday and cruised to a 47-20 win at home. The Lady Vikings led 17-4 after one quarter of play and 25-8 at the half. Charlo held the Scarlets to just one point in the third quarter as the Lady Vikings easily got the win.
Kinley Pope led the way for Charlo with 19 points while Dawn Blevins was also in double figures with 11.
It was a shot with 10 seconds to go by Seeley-Swan’s Miranda Dupree that was the difference Thursday as the Lady Vikings suffered just their second loss of the season.
The Lady Blackhawks jumped out to a 14-9 lead after one quarter, but the game was a back-and-forth affair after that. Charlo trailed 19-17 at the half and 31-28 after three quarters, and though they rallied to take the lead in the fourth quarter, Seeley-Swan pulled out a 37-36 victory.
Jordan Ludeman led Charlo with 10 points in the loss while Deondra Brown and Pope each added nine points.
Rachel Hoyt and Brown both scored 12 points Saturday as the Lady Vikings blew past Thompson Falls, 45-17.
Charlo held Thompson Falls to just four points in the opening half as the Lady Vikings built a commanding 27-4 halftime lead. Charlo cruised from there as the Lady Vikings picked up an easy win.
The season continues for both teams Thursday at St. Regis before Charlo celebrates senior night Saturday against Philipsburg.
