Both the Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs came into last week looking to avenge early January losses to Bigfork as the teams met up again Tuesday in Mission. It was not to be for Mission’s teams as both squads suffered their second loss of the season to their northern foes.
The Bulldogs were looking to avenge a Jan. 4 loss that saw Mission fall 32-19 at Bigfork but a rough shooting night plagued Mission Tuesday as they once again fell to the visiting Vikings, 63-33.
The second and fourth quarters were the difference Tuesday as the Vikings outscored the Bulldogs 35-13 in those two periods to pull away for the win.
Bigfork ended the game shooting 54 percent from the field while the Bulldogs managed just 25 percent shooting.
Stuart Grant, who led the Bulldogs in scoring at Bigfork, once again led Mission in scoring with 10 points Tuesday while Christian Kerr led the Vikings with 22 points.
The Lady Bulldogs were undefeated when they met up with the Vals Jan. 4 but Bigfork made a statement with a 51-9 victory. The Lady Bulldogs made a much stronger showing Tuesday but still came up short in a 45-32 loss.
Bigfork pulled away early and never looked back in the two teams’ first meeting this season but that was not the case Tuesday as the Lady Bulldogs trailed by only two after one quarter of play. The Vals were only able to add one to their lead in the second quarter as Bigfork led 23-20 at the half.
The difference in the game came in third quarter as Bigfork’s Mallery Knoll sparked a 15-6 run. Knoll scored eight in the period as the Vals pull ahead 38-26 heading into the final eight minutes.
Mission was not done, though, as the Lady Bulldogs opened the fourth quarter with a 7-0 run to cut the Bigfork lead to 38-33 with three minutes to play. Mission would come no closer as the Vals scored the final six points of the contest to pick up the win.
Loren Erickson and Kyla Mitchell led the Lady Bulldog effort with 10 points each in the loss.
Both the Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs bounced back with wins Friday as they both downed visiting Eureka.
The Bulldogs scored the majority of their first-half points from beyond the three-point line, knocking down six shots from long range in the first 16 minutes to build a 33-22 lead at the half. The Bulldogs cruised in the second half as they held on to pick up a 50-40 victory and improve to 7-7 overall and 3-4 in district action.
Dylan Evans led the Bulldogs with 14 points in the win while Nikko Alexander added 13 and Grant added 10.
Eureka’s Tanner Peterson hit all nine of his shots and led all scorers with 19 points.
Mitchell tied a season-high 23 points and the No. 10 Lady Bulldogs (11-3, 5-2) cruised to a 45-32 win over visiting Eureka Friday.
Mission opened the game with a 10-0 run and never looked back on the way to the win. Mission led by seven after one quarter and pushed that lead to 28-17 at the half. The Lady Bulldogs outscored Eureka 17-15 in the second half to hold on for the win.
Mitchell’s 23 led the way for the Lady Bulldogs while Breanna Steele added 11 in the win.
The season continues for both teams Friday as the Lady Bulldogs play host to Troy while the Bulldogs face Troy on the road. Both teams are on the road Saturday as they play at Seeley-Swan.
