RONAN – It’s that time of year again, when loved ones come together and celebrate all they are thankful for. All community members are welcome to join together for a hearty meal and entertainment during the eighth annual Ronan Community Thanksgiving Dinner, to be held Nov. 24 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Ronan Community Center. Event coordinator Dana Grant says he is expecting a good turnout similar to last year, and is looking forward to community members enjoying volunteering, eating and socializing.
“I’m expecting a large crowd,” Grant said. “I’m excited about it.”
Each year the celebration draws several hundred residents who come together to share conversation, homemade pie and the chance to look at the good in their lives. Marie Cowan started the event eight years ago at the Ronan Café. Soon, the annual event outgrew the café, and was moved to the Ronan Community Center. It’s now sponsored by the Ronan Area Chamber of Commerce.
Food supplies and all the fixings are donated by locals throughout the area, and Grant said anyone interested in either volunteering time or cooking a pie for the dinner is more than welcome.
“We’re still looking for volunteers,” Grant said. “They can call me to figure out times to volunteer, or if they want to donate turkey, their time or pie. We’re breaking work shifts into one-hour and half-hour shifts. If they call we can arrange their shift with a time that works with them.”
Festivities for the day include entertainment and a traditional turkey dinner. Volunteers are needed to help serve, cook, bus and clean up. Turkey, pies and rolls are all needed.
Entertainment will also be provided from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and includes a variety of local bands including the Pettit family.
“We’re going to have some different musical acts, and people can dance if they want,” Grant said.
Grant encourages anyone who would like to volunteer or help with food to call him at (406) 240-0640 or e-mail grantdana@hotmail.com.
The dinner will be free, but financial donations are welcomed and appreciated. Donations may be sent to the Ronan Community Volunteers at P.O. Box 751, Pablo, MT 59855.
