CHARLO – The Charlo Vikings Volleyball varsity squad pulled out a 2-3 win over Mission Friday evening, but Charlo Head Coach Sheryl Kain says her team has a long way to go if they’re going to be a top team this season.

“We have a lot to improve upon,” Kain said. “And we can’t think it’s going to happen overnight.”

She said a lack of communication and standing around between the girls didn’t make her happy at all.

“I saw a lot of standing, watching, and not talking, which we need to fix,” she noted.

In the first match, the Lady Vikings fell 25-19 to the Lady Bulldogs, but bounced back in the second game, winning 25-23.

During the third game the Lady Bulldogs rolled over Charlo, winning 25-10. The Lady Vikings tied Mission in the fourth match, 25-23, to tie the teams up at two wins apiece. Charlo then secured the win with a 15-9 performance in overtime.

For the Lady Vikings, Dawn Blevins had five blocks, 13 assists and three aces. Teammate Kinley Pope finished with 17 digs, while Deondra Brown had 13 kills.

For Mission, Sarah Bowers had five aces, while Loren Erickson had 15 assists.

On Saturday, the Lady Vikings traveled to play St. Regis, where Charlo picked up an easy 3-0 victory.

In the first match, Charlo crushed the Tigers 25-1 to set the tone for the remainder of play. In the second game they won 25-14, and won 25-10 in the final game.

Brown finished the game with 11 of Charlo’s 27 kills and 3 digs. Blevins had two blocks and 11 assists, while Pope had and Rachel Hoyt had seven aces apiece.

“Deondra had another nice hitting game,” Kain said. “Kinley and Rachel served well.”

The Lady Vikings play Noxon at home on Thursday, Sept. 1 and travel to Hot Springs on Sept. 3rd.
