I am writing this letter to make an apology to Charlo School student Webb O’Neill on comments from the audience during the 14-C District Basketball Tournament held in Ronan. I heard comments like, “Webb should have stayed in Arlee;” “This is where he belongs;” and “He should not have left Arlee.”
It broke my heart to hear the hollering and booing while he was on the court. I do agree that Webb was a valuable part of this community but verbally attacking him was unnecessary. It was not appropriate, and it was poor sportsmanship. I can only imagine how he felt while playing after hearing the comments.
I would like to offer a public apology to Webb for the comments I heard at the tournament.
