RONAN – Things couldn’t be better for first-year runner, and seventh grade Ronan Middle School student Bailey Speagle.
Fed up with the politics of softball, Speagle felt that running for the track team might be a better fit. To say she fit right in would be an understatement.
In just a few short months of training for her events, the 200 hurdles, and the 400-meter sprint, Speagle has become a big contributor to her team. In the past few weeks, she has broken her own record once at the 200 hurdles, with the new record of 33.58 seconds, while also breaking a 27-year-old record in the 400-meter sprint with a time of one minute, six seconds.
“She’s kicking butt,” stepfather Rob Bibble said. “This is really awesome to see.”
According to Bibble, Speagle has made huge improvements in a short amount of time, and he is excited to see her do so well at a sport she just began participating in.
“It all just came natural to her,” a proud stepfather reports. “As she continues her training she is getting so much better.”
In one week Speagle shaved six seconds off her 400, which is extremely rare and exciting progress for the young runner.
“She’s phenomenal,” Bibble said “I can’t wait to see what else she can do.”
The results are not official until the records are double-checked later this week before the awards ceremony.
