DAYTON — When planning our first “steak ride” in 1981, we surely did not think we would still be meeting on the first Sunday in May in 2013. Sunday, May 5, will mark the 32nd anniversary of Mission Valley Back Country Horsemen’s annual “steak ride.”
Participants can count on a great ride, plus a steak dinner served up with cowboy beans, a green salad, French bread, plus a wonderful offering of desserts. Where else could you get a chance to ride with family and/or friends in our always beautiful country; sometimes in areas that are non-accessible other than on horseback?
The ride is planned to last 2-3 hours on a very well marked trail. You may leave camp anytime after 9 a.m. but we do ask that you be back in camp by 2 p.m. as we start serving dinner at 3 p.m. Drawings for door prizes will be held during the meal.
Once again, Mike Meulie and family have graciously allowed us to ride on their property in Dayton. There is a wonderful campsite area with plenty of room to park your outfit(s). We welcome Saturday night campers for the 6 p.m. potluck. As a courtesy to the Meulies, we ask that you bring only certified weed free hay and please, if you bring your favorite dog(s), they must be confined to your camp at all times.
If you are looking for a good excuse for your spouse to take you out for a ride and supper, this is it.
