ANACONDA – It all came down to the wire Tuesday in Anaconda, as the Maidens used a three-run seventh inning to break a tie and secure the 8-5 victory. It could have gone either way during the seventh, as the Maidens filled the bases, yet had two outs.
Ronan freshman Jasmine Bocksnick stepped up to the plate and slammed her bat into catcher Courtney Moodry’s helmet, which earned a call for catcher’s interference. The play sent Bocksnick to first and brought in Ashleigh Lynch for the score.
This was followed by a two-run single by teammate Amber Quequesqah, which ended all scoring for the day with a lead of 8-5.
Earlier in the game the Maidens jumped out to a 2-0 lead during the first inning, and added another run in the third to build their lead. The Copperheads struck back with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third to bring the game to 3-2.
Solid defense from Anaconda kept the Maidens at bay throughout the fourth inning, before the Copperheads would rally once more to take a 5-3 lead at the bottom of the fourth.
A pair of runs in the fifth tied the game at 5-5, before the Maidens eventually came away with the win.
Freshmen pitcher Alaina Madsen continues to improve from the circle, as she picked up the win against Karli King. Lindsay Clairmont fared well at the plate, finishing the game 3 for 3, while Katie Andrews, Alex Dulmes, and Lynch added a pair of hits each.
For the Copperheads, Moodry, King and Hannah Anderson all had two hits each to lead their team.
