Maidens win pair while Chiefs drop 2

The Maiden tennis team picked up a pair of wins, while the Chiefs dropped two, as they took on Stevensville and Whitefish this week. The girls defeated Stevensville 5-2, while the boys fell 5-2.
On the girls side, in singles, Amber Metzger picked up a victory over Breanna Junor, winning 6-2, 6-3. Teammate Jonelle Laver also won her match, beating Kaitlin Hancock, 6-0, 6-0.
In singles action, the boys only win of the day came when Kyle Yankey defeated Nigel McCullam 7-6, 8-6, 6-2. In doubles, Daniel Aylesworth and Tyler Anderson of Ronan defeated Garin McGrann and Tyler Penderglast, 6-4, 6-1.
In doubles, Taylor Courville and Katelyn Matkovich took down Fran Farr and Mersadiez Leese, 7-5, 6-2. Darian Blixt-Leo and Seri Smith also racked up a victory, as they defeated Courtney Shultz and Mickayla Sorenson, 6-3, 7-5.
It was much of the same for the Chiefs, as the team fell to Whitefish, 5-2. The only two matches won by the team came in doubles play, as Hunter Shima and Spencer Sucha beat Casey Beiser and Skylae Munzing 7-6 (4), 6-4. Their second win came when Christian Anderson and Tyler Anderson defeated Holden Roberts and Hans Munzing 6-3, 6-1.
The Maidens performed well against the Lady Bulldogs, as they picked up a 4-3 win.
The team won three matches in singles play, as Josie Benedetti first took down Laura Turco, 6-1, 6-3. Katelyn Matkovich then took down Caroline Carbo, 7-6, (4), 0-6, 6-4, while Metzger defeated Sloan Ellis, 6-0, 6-0.
The team was able to pull out the victory as doubles team Courville and Smith prevailed against Megan Danczyk and Lindsey Viscomi, 6-4, 6-3.
Divisional play begins May 21 in Libby.
