Charlo sweeps District 14-C, Arlee takes fourth

POLSON – The Viking track team proved ready for divisional play, as the girls and boys swept the competition at their district track and field meet Thursday in Polson. Both teams won big, taking first in all but one timed event that day in a lopsided victory. The girls had three multi-winners, while the boys had four. The top six placers in each event qualified for the Western C Divisional meet, May 20-21 at Missoula County Stadium.
Austin Bauer finished with three win in the 100, 200, and long jump. Stephen Delaney also took first in the 110 and 300 hurdles, along with the 400, helping his team win convincingly with an overall score of 277.
Teammate Chance Rosenbaum had an impressive afternoon, as he topped the pole vault and the 800, while Michael Smith took first in both the 1,600, and 3,200.
For the Lady Vikings, Deondra Brown and Dawn Blevins each took home a pair of first-place victories, while Aspen Runkel claimed three. The team took first overall with a score of 247.
Brown took the 100 and 200-meter dash, while Blevins finished first in the 800 and 1,600. Teammate Runkel won convincingly in both hurdles events, along with the 400.
Arlee’s Whitney Malatare had an incredible day, placing in five events, as she helped Arlee finish second at the meet with a score of 135.
Malatare first finished second in both the 100 and 200-meter dash and proceeded to take first in both the long and triple jump. Teammate Becca Nelson tied Malatare in the high jump with a height of 4 feet 6 inches.
Nelson had her fair share of success as well, as she also took first in the javelin, and third in the shot put.
Scarlets Jenna Pablo finished third in both the long and triple jump.
For the Warriors, it was a tough day, as they finished fourth at the meet with a total score of 64.
Brady Potts took second in the shot put and finished third in discus. Teammate Sam Nelson continues to perform well at the javelin, as he took first place, along with a third-place finish in the triple jump.
Two Eagle River finished last in both the girls’ and boys’ events, as their only score came on the boys’ side, finishing with 9.
In the high jump, TER’s Drew Payne finished with a third-place performance in the high jump, while teammate Marcus Brown took sixth in the discus.
