Editor,
The time is near for preparing our garden spots and containers for those new plants that we’ll be buying at local sales and nurseries. We at the Flathead Reservation Human Rights Coalition would like to remind folks to buy a few extra vegetable plants or seeds and plant a row for the hungry. If your space is limited, just an extra plant or two that you reserve to donate would be a big help.
If you’re new to gardening, there are many local folks who can help you learn how. Some of our local churches have community garden spots and other organizations are teaching special gardening methods. Gardening is a great stress reliever, it’s a way to help your food budget stay within bounds, it’s a way to spend more time with your family, get a healthier diet, and give back to your community.
Please consider giving fresh vegetables to your local food banks and senior centers. Be sure to call and ask what they need and when they are there to receive your donation. Have a great time gardening.
