RONAN – Many local parents took proactive steps to increase safety for their children this past week by utilizing the free Child ID kits provided by Lake County’s Retired Senior Volunteer Program. RSVP volunteers gave out free Child Safety Files to all seeking them at the Ronan Public Library.
“It’s important to have children come and have their identification documented,” volunteer Margaret Burke said. “By doing this we hope to help find lost children fast. It’s a good idea to have this done.”
Each parent receives a CD with 10 fingerprints in PDF format, digitally saved information, photos, a movie clip with voice, a printed EZ Child form and a printed ID card.
The free file includes basic descriptive information and digital fingerprints, which are all saved on a CD for the parent or guardian to take home with them. The CD also contains software that can generate posters and flyers to print in case of emergency.
“It’s a pretty good deal to get a CD with video and photos for free,” mother Erin Bennett said while her son James Bennett had his information recorded. “They don’t keep any of the information, it’s for our own records.”
According to Michal Delgado, all data collected to create the EZ Child ID Software Kit on the laptop is permanently erased off the system once each child has completed the program.
