Shady areas and paintings, photographs, furniture, clothing, jewelry, stained glass, quilts, rosemaling all drew shoppers and strollers to the Lake County Courthouse lawn for the 40th Annual Sandpiper Gallery Outdoor Art Festival.

Visitors could refresh themselves with ice cream cones, popcorn or lemonade or a pulled pork or beef sandwich from the Episcopal Church and take a few minutes to watch or listen to the entertainment scheduled every half hour to 45 minutes from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The art festival is a major fundraiser for the Sandpiper. The money is used for scholarships for Lake County students pursuing formal art studies in college. Last year the Sandpiper awarded three scholarships for $3,000 each according

Scholarships depend on money earned from the festival every year and how many people apply, according to Sandpiper personnel.

Margie Hendricks, chair of the festival, said there were fewer vendors this year but there were new exhibitors. She expects the proceeds to exceed last year’s.

Vendors seem to like the big trees, shade and displaying their art on the grass, according to Hendricks.
