Editor,

All the recent and extreme fluctuations in the polls on Republican candidates for president speak to some things that I know I have to remind myself of constantly: Do I really know what I feel is needed to move America forward? Have I established some clear values in my own mind? Am I influenced by staged performances? Do I feel enticed and taken in by negativity and panels of people loudly interrupting each other on TV, such as Fox News gives us every day? Is the drama of debates and sound bites more appealing to me than thoughtful, yet sometimes more boring, PBS-style interviews and long, yet informative articles?

I know that, if I am to make a good and proper choice for who will be the better president for the next term of office when I enter the voting booth, I had better put aside my tendencies to be attracted to the drama in the campaign advertising and rhetoric and focus upon thoughtful discernment based upon character and vision for America, which transcends party politics.

It may be a tall order, but I know it will be worth the effort.
