POLSON — It’s not unusual for couples to get married in the Lake County Courthouse, but Penny Lane and Pittsley Lundeen may be the first gnomes ever to tie the knot there.
A Pittsburgh Steelers gnome, Pittsley, belongs to Les Lundeen and was abducted before Thanksgiving from his home near Lundeen’s desk. Lundeen received pictures of Pittsley visiting the Whitefish Train Depot, standing on the rails with his ticket to Browning and visiting the city of Pittsburgh.
Then one day Lundeen received a picture of Pittsley with a gnome girl also dressed in Steelers’ colors.
‘He’ll probably never come back now,” Lundeen said. “He’s got a woman.”
But when Lundeen returned from lunch on Feb. 3, Penny, wearing a wedding veil and pearls, and Pittsley were standing on the counter in the County Treasurer’s office. Near them was a wedding announcement, stating they were married in Las Vegas.
Later in the afternoon, Lundeen received a card containing pictures of Penny and Pittsley in Las Vegas at a wedding chapel and at a motel.
The card was from the owners of the motel in Las Vegas, congratulating Penny and Pittsley on their baby. Little gnome feet may soon totter up and down the halls of the courthouse.
Lundeen just may have a party to celebrate all this gnome business. He might as well, since the Pittsburgh Steelers weren’t in the Super Bowl.
