Pirates split in midseason competition

The Polson Pirates started off strong last week, beating former Class A rival Ronan 54-41, before falling to No. 3 Stevensville two days later. 

Against Ronan, Polson started off hot, leading the Chiefs 11-8 at the end of the first, and built a 27-22 by halftime. Polson continued to lead through the third quarter, outscoring Ronan 15-9, and eventually cruising to a 54-41 victory. The win improved the Pirates’ season record to 6-5, while the Chiefs fell to 5-7.

Zach Camel led Polson with 16 points, while Ian Laimbeer dished out 13 points. Vince DiGiallonardo put up nine points, while Riley Sampson, Will Davey, Cody Fischer and Tyler Krell all finished with four points.

Marcus Hungerford led Ronan with nine points, while Brady Oakland added eight.

On Thursday, Polson looked to continue its strong start to the week, traveling to Stevensville to take on the No. 3 Yellowjackets.

Stevensville built a nine-point lead after the first quarter and led 38-20 at the break. A 27-17 run in the third quarter helped lift Stevensville over Polson, to win big, 80-44.

Camel tallied 16 points for the Pirates, while Krell came close behind with 15. 

For Stevensville, Austin Kelling and Josh Schultz finished with a game-high 17 points each, while Jesse Sims contributed 16.

Coming up this week, Polson plays Eureka Feb. 2 and hosts Columbia Falls Feb. 4.
