Lady Pirates blow past 3, fall to Frenchtown

The Polson softball team chalked up three non-conference wins last week, but couldn’t quite hold up to a powerful Frenchtown assault at home Thursday.
Heidi Rausch clocked in a solo home run to start out scoring for the Lady Pirates in the bottom of the second inning, but during their next at-bat, the Lady Broncs quickly answered with two singles. Polson pitcher Shalaina Duford walked another Frenchtown player to load the bases, and the next Lady Bronc batter hit a single to drive in Frenchtown’s first run. It was all downhill from there for the visiting Southwestern A dynamos. Emma Oostdyk hit a homer to start the fifth for the Lady Broncs, and she added another in the sixth. She was followed with another home run from Keegan Wickman to make the score 6-1 midway through the sixth inning.
Polson never recovered from the deficit, despite RBIs from Riley Kenney and Rausch, and the defending state champs fell 8-3.
After wins over Kalispell Glacier, Corvallis and Hamilton, the Lady Pirates’ record is 9-5 on the season, but there’s plenty of softball action left this year. Polson hosts Columbia Falls Thursday before traveling to the Butte Invitational Friday and Saturday.
