Maidens open season against Whitefish, Frenchtown

The Ronan girls’ basketball team went 1-1 at a tip-off tournament held in Hamilton and Corvallis over the weekend. The Maidens beat the Whitefish Lady Bulldogs 44-29 on Friday.
Raymi Clairmont led the Maidens with 17 points and seven rebounds while going six for nine from the free throw line. Freshman Brylee Weatherwax had two 3-pointers and six points in the third quarter, where Ronan outscored Whitefish 18-7.
Courtney Taylor had six points, all coming off of offensive rebounds. Senior Ashleigh Lynch didn’t score, but held Whitefish’s leading scorer from last year to three points and grabbed seven rebounds, five of them offensively.
“All 10 players that suited up got playing time and all contributed one way or another,” said JV coach Cameron Barber.
Against Northwestern A conference leader Frenchtown, Ronan fell 66-29.
“Ronan played a good first half, tied up after one quarter and only down by 10 at half, but couldn’t keep it going in the second half,” Barber said.
Courtney Clairmont had 12 points off of four 3-pointers, two coming in the first quarter. Raymi Clairmont had five points and seven rebounds.
The Maidens host Florence at 4 p.m. Friday and Eureka at 1:30 p.m. Saturday.
