CHARLO — Cloudy skies lingered over Charlo on July 4, a holdover from prior rain, but by parade day the ground was only damp as Charlo’s annual Independence Day parade marched on.
Local families and visitors gathered along Main Street, where tractors, horses, classic cars, and floats paraded under the gray sky. Community members came prepared with camp chairs, umbrellas, and pop-up tents for a celebration that warmly embraced small-town unity and Americana charm.
Alex Moore, a traveler en route to Glacier National Park, made a spontaneous stop after discovering Charlo’s parade via Facebook.
“I am traveling to Glacier for the holidays… Facebook recommended Charlo’s, and I am glad I came since the parade was something unique for this little town… I also love seeing how the entire town came together for this — it shows off the community of the town.”
Chandler Miller, visiting friends, highlighted the historic vehicles as a standout moment.
“My favorite part of the parade was the old cars, since I always loved seeing old cars. It’s also great in my opinion, that the whole town comes out for the parade.”
Though dry skies prevailed during most of the festivities, light rain returned later in the afternoon, just enough to settle the dust and moisten the fairgrounds in preparation for evening fireworks. The dampened earth helped reduce fire risk, allowing organizers to proceed with a safe and vibrant display.
From potluck tables under tarps to kids chasing glowing bubbles through the fresh air, Charlo’s Independence Day celebration was a testament to community spirit. The 2025 parade may have started under damp conditions, but ended with a sparkle—everyone reminded that in Charlo, it’s not about sunny skies, but about standing together.
