POLSON — Members of the Polson Pickleball Club put a bench at the O’Malley Park courts on June 8 in memory of a club member who recently died of cancer. Dennis LaBonty was an active pickleball player who shared the love of this sport with all. The bench was built by Gary Poor, and the horseshoe art was created by Stevie McAdams. Th bench will serve as a memory of LaBonty’s contribution to the Polson Pickleball Club and the sport. There are plans to add a plaque that says:
In loving memory of Dennis “DenLab” LaBonty. Serving up the game winning shots in the heavens. You will always be on the courts and in our hearts.”
Polson’s Pickleball Club started just one year ago with the goal of adding 3 additional courts. The sport has grown so much the club now needs additional space to support those who live in Polson and play, along with summer residents and out of town travelers.
The club hosted a kid’s camp earlier this year at the Boys and Girls Club, and have another camp scheduled in July. Members are also looking to have a beginners class in the evenings for those who would like to try the sport.
