POLSON - On June 19, 1865, (nearly 100 days after the Civil War ended), the Army of the United States freed all the nearly 250,000 slaves in Texas, the last state to abolish involuntary servitude. An abbreviation of this memorable event became “Juneteenth.” Soldiers died to make men free, and to keep us free to this day. Be awake. Stay alert.
