Summer has finally arrived at the Polson Library, which means the return of our Annual Summer Reading Program. The “Color Our World” program runs from June 9 through Aug. 7. You can register yourself online at: https://northlakecolibrary.readsquared.com/ or in the ReadSquared app and record your reading, or you can register in the library and use a paper log to track your minutes. Please just pick one way. If you’d like to use ReadSquared but need help, come and see us or give us a call. There are five levels this year. Pre-K kids need to be read to for 200 minutes per level for a total of 1,000 minutes and all other age groups need to read 300 minutes per level for a total of 1,500 minutes. We have a special activity log for Pre-K kids this year that allows them an extra reward upon completion. For each level we have wonderful reward coupons and items from a variety of businesses around town, and you will get two tickets to put into our prize boxes. With art being the theme this year, we have a lot of great art prizes as well as other items and some amazing prizes from our local businesses. The grand prize this year is a brand new, custom-fitted guitar and private lessons from Fiddlesticks School of Music. Visit our website for more details on how to register.

Our website also lists all our programs. We have a huge lineup of programs for all ages. Every Thursday morning at 10 a.m. we have a program in the library, with one exception. June 19 is our movie day at Showboat Stadium 6. Make sure you are registered for the program and pick up your “golden” ticket at the library to attend that morning. For kids we have a special program on Monday, June 23, at 10 a.m. all about instruments with Jeri and Cole from Fiddlesticks School of Music. We also continue weekly Mother Goose programs on Fridays at 10 a.m. and Toddler Time on Saturdays at 10 a.m. Page Turners Youth Book Club is June 18 at 4 p.m. discussing “The Mouse and the Motorcycle.”

For teens we have several programs planned. Every month on the second Friday at 4 p.m. join our “unplugged” Digital Services Specialist, Connor for a board game afternoon. June 13 at 2 p.m. is an art program, Zine Scene, then Bloom and Brush watercolor program is June 27 at 2 p.m. Sign up is required for both. Jenn is leading our new teen book club, The Book Drop on June 16 at 4 p.m. discussing “Insignificant Events in the Life of a Cactus.”

We have several special guest speaker programs this summer including June 3 at 2 p.m. with Lake County Conservation District discussing their Pollinator Initiative and the Impact of Pesticides. On June 9 at 5:30 p.m. Montana author Russell Rowland joins us for a book talk and signing, and on June 19 at 9 a.m. and a duplicate program at 4:30 p.m. we welcome Polson Police Chief Simpson and Flathead Tribal Police Chief Couture to talk about Drug Awareness in our Community. Registration is required for that program due to popularity and limited seating. We have also begun a partnership with Angel Care to offer a Memory Café for adults dealing with memory loss and dementia. This is held the first Tuesday of each month at 10 a.m. in the library.

The June 7 Bookfest Club for adults has changed times to 11 a.m. and will be discussing “The God of the Woods.” The Adult Coloring Program for July 1 at 10:30 a.m. is celebrating Red, White & Bloom. We also have our monthly MLN Virtual Program on June 10 at 6:30 p.m. via Zoom on Safety During Wildfire and Smoke Events.

Save the date, as we will kick off July and the holiday weekend celebration with a Great American Songbook Sing-along with Angela and company on July 2 at 3 p.m. This will be a fun time for all ages to get together and sing favorite American songs and is sure to put you in the patriotic spirit.

Our regular hours are Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Joyful Cup Coffee and Tea is open Monday – Friday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The next Library Board Meeting is Tuesday, June 17 with a budget amendment hearing starting at 5:30 p.m. Please call us at 406-883-8225 or email us at: polsonlibrary@northlakecountylibrary.org with questions.
