Randy Holmes speaks with fellow Rock Point Road residents about traffic impacts from the new casino being built north of Polson. About 30 citizens gathered for the May 15 meeting held at the Masumola Club. Making a lefthand turn onto US Hwy. 93 toward Polson is already difficult to do, and even more so during the busier summer months. Fire and safety issues are also among expressed concerns.
While dedicated turn lanes and a traffic light were recommended by KLJ Engineering following a traffic impact study, residents are concerned that those updates are being pushed out too far into the future. Lowering the speed limit so that traffic is slowed prior to Rocky Point Road was suggested as a quicker solution.
Resident Jan Smith-Kasson, who has been studying the issue for many months, let those attending know that a meeting with county commissioners and city officials was going to be held Tuesady, May 20 at City Hall. Approaching the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes, casino owners, was discussed as a next step.
