FLATHEAD LAKE -2025 Spring Mack Days on Flathead Lake sponsored by the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes ended on Saturday, May 10, breaking the 2019 Spring Event record of 40,362 lake trout with a total of 60,138 entries turned in over the nine weeks of fishing on Flathead Lake. A total of 206 anglers out of the 562 registered anglers turned in one or more lake trout. Fridays total came to 2,522 and Saturday ended with 1,360. Total entries from the Friday to Sunday fishing is 48,393 and Monday to Thursday fishing came to 11,745. Mack Days is a fish conservation effort used as a tool to reduce the non-native lake trout and increase the native bull trout and westslope cutthroat populations in Flathead Lake.
Coming in first in the Top Twenty anglers was Kalispell angler Kolton Turner with 2,320 entries and a100.0 18-day average. This is win number five for Kolton in the Spring Events beginning with the 2021 Spring Event. A close second place was Jason Mahlen of Kalispell with 2,243 entries and an average of 99.56. Jason is a seven time first place winner over the years. Bob Turner of Kalispell was third with 2,142 and a 96.78 average; in fourth place was David Myers of Riverton, Wyoming, with 2,182 and an average of 96.67; in fifth place is Clint Speer of Kalispell with 1,586 and an average of 72.22; in sixth place was Larry Ashwell of Missoula with 1,330 and an average of 70.17; in seventh was Jerry Benson of Plains with 1,517 and an average of 69.67; in eighth place was Terry Krogstad of Kalispell with 1,447 and an average of 69.11; in ninth place was Patrick Casey of Townsend with 1,456 and an average of 68.17; in 10th place was Steve Andrachick of Kalispell with 1,372 and an average of 66.33; in 11th place was Bob Stewart of Kalispell with 1,235 and an average of 64.11; in 12th place was Devon Bukowsk of Kalispell with 1,182 and an average of 61.61; in 13th place was Gene Corne of Kalispell with 1,282 and an average of 60.78; in 14th place was Julie Perkins of Kalispell with 1,166 and an average of 58.11; in 15th place was Mike Benson of Lonepine with 1,229 and an average of 57.83; in 16th place was Larry Karper of Florence with 1,018 and an average of 54.89; in 17th place was Larry Ludahl of Kalispell with 1,030 and an average of 50.72; in 18th place was Michael Stevenson of Kalispell with 929 and an average of 46.78; in 19th place was Bryan Long of Columbia Falls with 919 and an average of 45.56; and in 20th place was David Kelch of Great Falls with 724 and an average of 39.78.
Janet Myers of Riverton, Wyoming, took first place in the Ladies with 506; in second with 251 was Connie Jones of Kalispell; in third place was Shaunda Albert of Ronan with 220; in fourth was Laurie Bouley of Columbia Falls with 68; and in fifth wasLaurie Kreis of Huson with 26.
Veteran youth angler Brodie Smith of Kalispell took first in the 13-17 Category with a total of 796; in second was Fjord Borgen of Kalispell with 74; and David Gerspach of Kila had 5.
Up and coming angler Carter Lindsay was first in the 12 & Under category with 70; in second place was Mason Persico of Missoula with 59; and in third was Allyvia Yang of Missoula with 32.
The largest lake trout entry was a 38.25 inches lake trout weighing 22.66 pounds turned in by Tristan Persico of Missoula on Friday. Tristan was met on shore for the weighing and released the older lake trout back into the lake.
The smallest lake trout awards went to Jim Flinchbaugh of Kalispell with a 156mm lake trout 6.5” long and Gene Corne with a 155mm small lake trout.
Spirit of the Event custom made knives by Bob Crowder of Thompson Falls were awarded to Janet Myers of Riverton, Wyoming, and Patrick Casey of Townsend. This award is given to anglers who exemplify what the events are about and show good sportsmanship. Siberian Coolers were won by Clint Speer, Claude Kaber and Jason Mahlen. Tagged lake trout the last week of the event were turned in by Ryker Bair of Helena X 2, Julie Perkins, Larry Karper, and Weston Turner.
