Just got my property tax notice for my tri-plex apartment building in Polson ... $1,500 for the first half … that’s $1,000 per tenant, per year. Doesn’t sound like much, but readers should understand landlords such as myself have no choice but to pass this cost onto the (middle and low-income) tenants. Higher rents … less affordable housing.
It wouldn’t be so painful, but the fact of the matter is the Chairman of the Senate Taxation Committee at the Montana State Legislature is the senator from Polson. He, of all people, should have the political clout to orchestrate some change in the state taxation system.
