POLSON - Our Polson Senior Center nutrition program delivers 60-80 meals daily to clients in our area. Over the last two years our client list has doubled. The national Meals on Wheels program reports that requests for meal deliveries have gone up 30% in one year. The Area 6 Agency on Aging for Western Montana has been dependent on state and federal funding for food assistance programs. We also rely on Lake County for support through mill levies. We continue to offer a hot, nutritious meal to needy and disabled seniors for only $5/meal. The continued funding of these senior programs is under scrutiny for reduction and/or abolition. MSNBC has reported on the President Trump’s plan to dismantle the Meals on Wheels nutrition program for seniors. Contact your state and federal elected officials.
Thanks to the five new volunteers for the food delivery program. We are now able to add another route, bringing the total number of routes to five. It also allows most routes to be completed within an hour.
We need help in the big hall during lunchtime by pouring beverages, refilling coffee cups and water glasses, and assisting those who are not so steady with their meal trays.
A fraud prevention expert will give a brief presentation at approximately noon on Wednesday, April 30.
