Bessie Nona Argo
RONAN - Bessie Nona Argo, of Ronan, passed away on March 13 at St. Luke’s Community Hospital. Bessie was born on Oct. 26, 1936, as the only child to Allen and Ireva (Root) Voorhies, and grew up in Niarada, Montana, where her parents ranched and ran a general store and Post Office. She attended school in Lonepine and graduated from Hot Springs High School in 1954. During her school years, she was very active in 4-H and music.
Bessie attended St. Patrick’s School of Nursing in Missoula and became an RN. The time at St. Pat’s created cherished friendships and a lifelong vocation.
Bessie married Arthur Argo in 1958 and together they ranched on Camas Prairie and raised four children.
Bessie worked in many facets of nursing during her career: Hospital, ER, office and home health care to name a few. In 1996, she began working for St. Luke’s Long Term Care in Ronan and remained there until 2016.
As an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Polson, Bessie served in many capacities, particularly enjoying the choir.
Surviving Bessie are her four children: Julie (Russ) Heaton of Kalispell, Lisa (Mike) Dolson of Hot Springs, Greg (Zoie) Argo of Novi, Michigan, and Cindy (Eric) Todd of Cheyenne, Wyoming. She is also adored and survived by 15 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren. Bessie found great joy in her family and loved spending time with them.
Bessie loved gardening, needlework, music, reading and travel. Mom was always up for an adventure or sight-seeing trip.
A memorial service is planned for Saturday, April 12, 2025, at the Lonepine Hall at 1 p.m. in Lonepine. A meal will be served following the service. Cremation has taken place through The Lake Funeral Home in Polson.
