POLSON - If you haven’t set your clocks forward by now, it’s not too late.
St. Patrick’s Day is March 17 and perhaps the next day too.
The Vernal (spring) Equinox (equal amounts of daylight and darkness) is on March 20. In Montana springtime does not start until May 1, and lasts only two weeks, then “Tourist Time” starts, followed by “Forest Fire Time.”
Due to the ever-increasing lunchtime food deliveries, we adding an additional route. Routes take about 45 minutes, all within a 5-mile radius of Polson. Each route has about 12 stops. Volunteers are needed each weekday. The volunteers may pick one and up to five weekdays. We are looking for up to five drivers to be drive regularly. We provide vehicles to use. Some prefer to use their own cars. We do not reimburse for gas. Come in, shadow a drivers and learn the routes. Call for details. We have 70+ clients regularly receiving delivered meals. We need your help! Call us.
Taxi service is available for Polson area seniors, who are disabled or unable to drive. We drive to local businesses, health offices, or care facilities. The round trip fee is $5 plus $1 for each additional stop. Reservations 24 hrs. in advance are highly recommended.Short notice seldom works.
Free AARP tax preparation assistance is available on Mondays and Thursdays. Call to make an appointment.
The AARP Safe Driver Course is scheduled for March 25 from 9:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Call the Polson Senior Center to sign up. Class size is limited to 20 and taking this class can save money on your car insurance. The class has no testing just videos and a guided discussion. The cost is $25, which includes a study guide for further reference.
Activities:
- Bowling: “no-tap” Tuesdays - 1-3 p.m. Join any time.
- Wednesday Play Day: Cards, board games, Dominoes, Yahtzee, etc. Invite a foursome.
- VSO (Veterans Service Officer:) first Friday and third Tuesday of each month - 9 a.m. -noon - walk-ins OK
- Spinning Wheelers: first Tuesday of each month - 11 a.m.-1 p.m. - 208-520-1013
- Bingo: Fridays - open at 5:30 p.m. - play at 6 p.m.; “Playing-Card” bingo begins on the first Wednesdays of each month
- Exercise: Sitting, standing or dancing: Ms-Ws Fs - 10:30– 11:30 a.m. - video-assisted., low impact, Move it or lose it.
- Pinochle: Thursdays and Mondays 12:15-3 p.m. We play 3, 4 or 5 handed. Three new players last week.
- Pool: open table from 8 a.m.-3 p.m.
Menu (subject to change): lunch $5 donation from 11:45 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
- Wednesday, March 12: meatloaf, baker, green beans, pineapple upside down cake
- Thursday, March 13: chicken strips, tater-tots, pasta salad, cookie
- Friday, March 14: The Ides of March - Caesar salad, roll, fruit, cherry cheesecake, “Et tu, Brute”
- Monday, March 17: St. Patrick’s Day - corned beef, cabbage, etc. rainbow salad, leprechaun bread, lucky pistachio fluff
- Tuesday, March 18: beef enchilada, pinto beans, mexi-slaw, lemon dessert
- Wednesday, March 19: hamburger gravy, mashed spuds, mixed veggies, chocolate chip bars
T- hursday, March 20: Spring is here! - turkey pot pie, spinach salad, baked apple, 7-layer cake
