Editor,
There are lies and half-truths in the last letter about my voting record. I never voted to raise tuition for Montana university students. The legislature could not tell the university to use their increase of $25 million to cap tuition instead of raising salaries. That is up to the Board of Regents.
The School for the Deaf and Blind had an increase in the last House Bill 2 of nearly $80,000. I voted for HB 2.
Until the Montana Veterans Homes in Columbia Falls and Glendive are full, I do not think we need to build a third one. By the way, I do not support the privatization of the Columbia Falls Veterans Home.
HB 612 did not raise taxes on small businesses. One part of the bill stated that a business could receive either the federal or the state tax credit for employee health care costs, but not both.
President Obama’s school program is called Race to the Top. There is a list of criteria to receive the grants. School choice is on the list. Montana is one only two states with no form of school choice. Guess we don’t need the Race to the Top money.
I never supported Montana’s secession from the Union — how ridiculous. HJ 14 was a statement of state sovereignty. The resolution even uses the 61st Legislature’s rejection of the “Real ID” act as an example. That rejection was a bipartisan effort, carried by a Democrat and supported by our governor.
I said that the director of the Montana Department of Revenue wanted to hire a company to do aerial property inspections for tax purposes. Director Bucks, appointed by the governor, even showed pictures of houses hidden in the trees to make his case — not my idea.
I am for more jobs, less taxes, more efficient government, quality education and clean water.
