POLSON — The county building that previously housed drug court, IT, and Sheriff’s detectives was demolished last week to make way for new expansions for the growing county offices.
While the building has been owned by the county for a number of years, County Commissioner Steve Stanley shared that the building was originally the territorial jail. Since then, the building was used as a laundry and some think as a restaurant before the county acquired it, Stanley said. His own office was once housed there as well.
“(There) was a need for elections needing more room, and more efficient room,” Stanley explained of the decision to tear down the old building for new construction. “Of course, planning and environmental health are definitely in need of more room – they’re much busier that they were 20 years ago … so we just have busy departments, and (the) third floor we need more room for the courtrooms and juvenile probation.”
The county estimates they’ll be able to occupy the new office in late 2024 or early 2025.
