LIBBY — The Polson Pirates crushed the Libby Loggers by a score of 44 to 0, earning the Northwester A conference championship title for the second year in a row.
The Pirates ate up 432 total yards on offense. Quarterback and leading rusher Andrew Weltz went 8 for 10 with 137 yards passing and two touchdowns. Running back Will Davey pulled down 5 receptions for 123 of those yards and two touchdowns while fullback Colton Lenz earned 100 yards on the ground with 13 carries.
Defensively, the pirates only gave up 53 yards of total offense and racked up 6 sacks. Defensive tackles Dan LaFranier and Marlin Burke combined for seven tackles, four sacks and a saftey while defensive end Brady Hislop and cornerback Dylan Kelley combined for six tackles, two sacks and an interception.
“Our defense played an excellent game,” said coach Scott Wilson.
According to MaxPreps, a CBS Sports-sponsored website, the undefeated Pirates are now ranked third in the state behind Beaverhead County (Dillon) and Billings Central Catholic.
Polson’s final challenge before playoffs will be a non-conference game versus Browning next week.
“It is senior night, and we will be recognizing 14 seniors that are a very talented group,” Wilson said.
