POLSON - Election Day is coming on Nov. 6.
This year the ballot for Lake County voters will be two pages long, one page double-sided.
The polls will be open beginning at 7 a.m. and will close at 8 p.m. With a long ballot comes larger lines at the polls, so Kathie Newgard, Lake County election administrator, said one way voters could avoid lines and waiting is absentee voting.
Voters can choose to be on the absentee annual list, which means their ballots will be automatically mailed to them 30 days before Election Day every year or a person may vote absentee for only one election. Ballots can be mailed back or can be returned in person to the Lake County Election Office in the Lake County Courthouse.
Absentee ballots already requested will be mailed on Oct. 9, Newgard said.
Voter information pamphlets will be mailed the first week of October so voters can read up on the ballot issues. Voters should be aware that candidates won’t be in the same order on the official ballot, Newgard said. The law requires candidate names be moved around so the same person is not always first.
To request an absentee ballot, voters can complete an absentee form or write in asking for an absentee ballot, including their printed name, address where the ballot is to be mailed, voter’s date of birth and their signature. If a person requests an absentee ballot, then that is their official ballot. They cannot decide to vote at the polls .
All absentee ballots must be in the election office by 8 p.m. on Nov. 6 to be counted, either mailed several days in advance or returned in person.
