Editor,
Kudos to Carmine Mowbray, who took on the difficult and responsible task of being a senator midway through the legislative session. As is Carmine’s practice, she listened and studied before voting in the Senate to abolish the death penalty in Montana.
Carmine’s vote helped send SB185 to the House of Representatives. I truly appreciate the fact that she stood by her convictions and constituents in making her decision.
The death penalty is a waste of resources, especially considering its inability to be carried out fairly. These resources are much better spent to protect Montanans with real, effective crime-fighting measures. Even though Montana rarely uses the death penalty, just having it on the books makes cases more expensive and leaves the possibility that we could execute an innocent person.
Thank you, Carmine.
