POLSON — Even though it’s summer time, quilters are still sewing, preparing for quilt shows and county fairs around the Mission Valley. The Flathead Cherry Festival quilt show had 18 entries this year, all constructed from cherry fabrics or featuring cherries in some way, according to show organizer Peggy Olsen.

In the people’s choice voting, Carl Rohr from Ronan won for his quilt, Turn on the Cherries. In his artist’s statement, Rohr said the rectangular boxes on the quilt reminded him of light switches and suggested a name for the quilt. Kay Wall, Polson, was second and Holly Flanders, Wall’s granddaughter, received third.

Olsen said the committee will make some changes for next year, but the show went well. Quilters can begin collecting cherry fabrics and thinking about how to showcase them.
