Editor,

I have watched three debates among the Republican candidates for president. If the office they are running for were not so important, and if what they are saying in seeking this high office was not so telling, one might enjoy the sheer entertainment factor in these political posturing party games.

But we must remember, one of these "group of nine" standing behind microphones, unless others decide to join the group, may well be actually leading our nation in the future. It is not that I believe our present administration is doing all that great, but are we to actually expect that what is being put forth in these debates is what we can expect to become our nation's future?

A fence (wall) between the U.S. and Mexico? Rejection of any idea of cutting back on our bloated military industrial complex and troop presence throughout the world? Rejection of the thought of raising any taxes but cutting out the Department of Education and the EPA, for example, as a way of saving money?

No coherent plan for health care but only the loud cry: Repeal Obamacare? No concrete suggestions solving the deficit problem, but just blasting away at Obama for not fixing the mess G.W. Bush's administration and other administrations got us into and fixing it within the relatively short time he has been in office?

No concrete suggestions on job creation in a nation that has been giving away its entire manufacturing capabilities for over 40 years? We must do better than this.

The entire national attitude of "we the people" right now, in my way of thinking, is asking for a total overhaul of our governmental structure from establishing term limits; setting limits on the amount of money spent on campaigns; establishing firm and well-defined guidelines for lobbyists who will be allowed to educate legislators on special interest matters but not give them any money; a more transparent executive branch of government; and the many other changes needed so that we are, once again, a government of the people, by the people, and for the people.

This is not about party politics or present party platforms. This is about our future. This is about real change. This is about rebuilding America to its great potential as a leader among leaders in a free world.
