Not A problem: Lady Pirates cruise past trio of Class A teams

Class A teams once again posed no threat to the Lady Pirates this week as Polson defeated Libby, Corvallis and Hamilton. The Lady Pirates had a much tougher time against Class AA Glacier Tuesday as they fell at Kalispell, 5-1.
Polson jumped out to a 1-0 lead over the Wolfpack in the opening inning and held that advantage until the third inning. The Lady Pirates were unable to score again, though, as Glacier scored a pair in the third, added two more in the fifth and scored on in the sixth inning on the way to the victory.
Sallie Sams led the Pirate offense with a pair of singles in the loss while Ashley Johnson, Shay Duford, Heidi Rausch and Makaliah Wilson each added hits for Polson.
Shay Duford took the loss for the Lady Pirates, giving up five runs on 13 hits.
Polson needed a late rally to get by Libby Thursday but the Lady Pirates got runs in bunches when they needed them most. Down 2-1 heading into the sixth inning, the Lady Pirates came storming back with four runs in the sixth and three more in the seventh to pull away for an 8-2 victory.
The combination of Sams and Kodi Woods overpowered the Lady Logger defense as the pair each went 4-5 at the plate and combined to produce eight of Polson's 19 hits in the win. Johnson was 3-4 in the win, Rausch added three hits, Jessica Bagnell had two and Shay Duford, Kayla Duford and Kylie Knutson each added one hit in the win.
Shay Duford gave up just two runs on 10 hits to pick up her eighth win of the season for Polson.
The duo of Shay Duford and Johnson seemed unstoppable Saturday as the pair combined to go 12-15 at the plate in a pair of run-rule wins over Hamilton and Corvallis.
Johnson went 3-4 in both games while Duford was 4-4 against Hamilton and 2-3 against Corvallis. Shay ended the day with eighth RBI while teammate Knutson knocked in six.
Shay Duford also picked up the pitching win in both contests.
An eighth-run opening inning was all the offense Polson needed to get a win against Hamilton in the opening game of the day, but the Lady Pirate bats were far from done. The Lady Pirates added five in the third and one run in both the second and fourth innings to pick up a 10-run rule victory over the Lady Broncs, 15-4.
The Lady Pirate offense waited until the fourth inning to really get going against Corvallis in the second game of the day as Polson used a nine-run explosion to pull away for another run-rule victory, 13-1.
Polson scored twice in both the first and second innings to go up 4-0 before Corvallis answered with a run in the top of the third to cut the deficit to 4-1. The Lady Pirates put the game away in the bottom of the fourth with nine runs to stretch the lead to 13-1.
Shay Duford led the way with a 2-3 performance with a home run and four RBI while Johnson was 3-4, Sams and Wilson were both 2-3 and Woods, Rausch Kayla Duford and Knutson each added hits in the win.
Shay Duford picked up the win in the pitching circle to improve to 11-3.
The Lady Pirates will be in action on the road this weekend as they play at the Butte Invitational.
