RONAN – The Maidens faced off against four talented teams this week as they attempted to bounce back last weeks 2-3 performance. The Maidens were handed a pair of losses by Libby and Columbia Falls before taking down both Hamilton and Corvallis, which are two teams that beat Ronan earlier in the season. At Ronan Tuesday, the Loggers used a 10-run fourth inning to break the game wide open on the way to 19-3 win. The game ended in the fifth inning via the 10-run margin rule.
The Maidens started off hot against the Loggers, taking a 3-1 lead at the top of the second, but those three runs would be the only ones scored that day by Ronan. Libby went on a scoring frenzy throughout the remainder of the game.
Payge Delaurenti finished the game with one hit and one RBI for the Maidens, while Katie Andrews, Ashleigh Lynch, and Whisper Ivins all contributed a hit.
For the Loggers, Alysha Martin led her team, going 3 for 4 at bat, while Lexi Hageness and Alyssa Walker finished with a pair of hits.
On Thursday, Ronan hosted Columbia Falls at home, giving up 16 runs in five innings to fall 16-4.
Madsen pitched the entire game, picking up the loss as she struck out one, and allowed 13 hits.
The Maidens were kept at bay throughout the first three innings as the WildKats began creating a large deficit of runs to overcome early on. The Maidens finally got their offense going in the bottom of the fourth by putting up four runs, however, by that time Columbia Falls had a 13-4 lead.
For Ronan, Andrews, Turquoise Haggard, and Delaurenti all finished with one hit in the loss.
Madi Sandefer led the Wildkats at bat, going 3-4 while Shaun Rowe and Jessica Owens each finished with a pair of hits.
The Maidens then bounced back from the two early losses to take down both Hamilton and Corvallis on Saturday in Ronan. Earlier in the season, the team fell to both the Broncs and the Blue Devils on the road, but prevailed against them Saturday.
Against Hamilton, the Maidens faired well at the plate as they combined for a total 20 hits in an all-out slugfest.
Freshman pitcher Madsen continues to throw well, as she picked up a pair of wins in the circle on Saturday. Throwing against Hamilton, Madsen struck out seven, walked five, and allowed 13 hits.
Ronan started the game hot as they picked up eight runs in the bottom of the first to take the early 8-2 lead. The Maidens weren’t the only hot team as the Broncs put together a 10-run third inning to take a 13-8 lead at the top of the fourth.
Ronan held Hamilton to only three runs, while the Maidens went on to score another ten runs through the next three innings to edge by with a 18-16 victory.
Delaurenti led the Maidens at bat as she finished 3-4, along with a pair of RBIs. Ashleigh Lynch and Lindsay Clairmont also finished with three hits each, while Katie Andrews added four hits.
For the Lady Broncs, Candice Dunagan finished with three hits while Presley Chadwick, Nichole Hood, and Liz Taylor all added a pair of hits.
Later in the day, the Maidens faced off with Corvallis at home, holding the Blue Devils to only four runs in the seventh inning to pick up a 7-4 victory.
Madsen also pitched against Corvallis, as she struck out three and walked three to improve to 2-4 in the circle this week.
The Maidens put up six runs in the bottom of the second to build a lead that they would keep for the remainder of the game. Stellar pitching and defense kept Corvallis’ offense at bay as Ronan almost shut them out.
Andrews went 2-3 at the plate with a double and an RBI while Lynch added a pair of hits.
For Corvallis, Tegan Elliot went 2-3, while Whitney Jessop, Alex Price, and Korie Conder all added one hit.
