Editor,

As I write this letter, Catholic doctrine is “front and center” right now with the controversial draft document the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops is expected to vote on. This has to do with President Joe Biden and other Catholic politicians who publicly support abortion rights, and in so doing should they receive “Holy Communion” in the Catholic Church.

Listening to all this apparent violation of Catholic religious doctrine brings to mind how “religious doctrines” have caused wars, chaos and confusion for hundreds and hundreds of years.

Fact is, our various religions have been the primary cause of human divisiveness, wars, killings, disharmony, and all manner of our human struggles with fear, anger and discontent.

All this is happening amidst our various churchs’ teachings of how to live our lives together in love, harmony, peace and patience. Are we really learning what Jesus meant by the phrase, “Love one another as I have loved you.” And, of course, Jesus continues expressing and demonstrating this Love. Can we? Yes, we can. Will we? Another good question.
