MANHATTAN – The Ronan Chiefs football team (3-1) were handed their first loss of the season after traveling to Manhattan (3-1), where they struggled to get into an offensive rhythm to keep up with the Tigers to lose 25-0.
“We struggled offensively and allowed Manhattan to score on big plays,” head coach Jim Benn said.
On offense, senior quarterback Robbie Gauthier had 13 carries for 71 yards, while completing nine of 24 passes for 88 yards.
Jake Skelton finished the game with 13 carries for 26 yards on the ground, while Chris Clary led the Chiefs in receptions, catching five passes for 57 yards.
The Chiefs' defense held Manhattan to 173 yards of rushing, and 173 yards passing.
Manhattan stopped Gauthier at the 1-yard line with a minute of play to earn the shutout.
This week the Chiefs will continue their season in a homecoming match-up against Deer Lodge on Friday.
“They run spread offensively, and will run an even front on defense,” Benn said. “They have one of the best athletes in the conference in Reno Ward; we need to fix assignment breakdowns from the previous game.”
