VICTOR – Charlo used a second-half, 44-point offensive push to pull out a come-from-behind rout over Victor on the road to end a three-week schedule of away games. Both teams battled heat and smoky conditions, with Charlo prevailing in the end.
“Both teams had to overcome fatigue in a closely contested battle,” head coach Mike Krahn said. “In the end, Charlo was able to wear down Victor and came away with the victory.”
Junior quarterback Tra Ludeman ran for three touchdowns and passed for three more to lead the Vikings in a 56-36 Western C victory Saturday afternoon. Ludeman finished the game with 12 rushing attempts for 236 yards and completed nine of 17 passing attempts for 149 yards.
Charlo’s offensive game continues to improve, as Jacen Petersen rushed eight attempts for 26 yards and caught three receptions for 33 yards, including a touchdown. Stephen Delaney pulled down three receptions for 108 yards and two touchdowns.
On defense, Petersen brought down 21 tackles, including one interception, while Delaney finished with 22 tackles and another interception for the Vikings.
Ludeman’s 65-yard run gave the Vikings a 40-28 lead in the fourth quarter and increased the deficit during their next possession when Ludeman found Delaney for a 47-yard touchdown.
Victor answered Charlo when Kurt Manely scored on a 1-yard quarterback sneak.
The Vikings return home this week to play Arlee for Charlo's homecoming.
“Arlee is coming off of a very close loss to Drummond,” Krahn said. “Arlee has good team size and a formidable rushing attack.”
To prepare for the game, Krahn says his team needs to work on tackling and playing with more discipline, while remaining aggressive on defense.
