POLSON — Two candidates for administrative positions in Polson schools will be presented to the board of trustees on May 30, according to Bill Appleton, interim superintendent.
Joshua Preiss will be recommended for the Linderman principal position. With seven years experience as a fourth grade teacher and two as building principal, Preiss comes from Whitehall, where he demonstrated success as an academic leader. Preiss worked with his staff to develop a plan to address school needs, Appleton said. He has experience with Response to Intervention and Montana Behavioral Institute. Supervisors shared that Preiss is a strong proponent of addressing student behavior concerns and providing follow-up action for student support.
From Forks, Wash., Rex Weltz will be recommended for the high school principal position. With 11 years experience as a high school teacher and seven years as an elementary and high school principal, Weltz is a strong instructional leader and communicator. He has experience implementing RTI and is versed in the Common Core Curriculum Standards. According to Appleton, his recommendations indicate his strong ability to build positive relationships and promote high student expectations.
Teams comprised of classified and certified staff, board members and administrators reviewed the candidates’ applications. The teams also interviewed the top candidates, Appleton said, and then provided opportunities for staff at Polson High School and Linderman Elementary School to ask them questions as well as a more informal meet-and-greet.
