RONAN — The Maidens will travel to Anaconda Thursday for State B-C softball action after taking second in the divisional tournament they hosted Friday and Saturday.
After downing Eureka Friday afternoon and surviving a hard-fought battle later that day against the neighboring Mission-Arlee-Charlo Lady Bulldogs, Ronan fell to Florence in Saturday’s title game, which only lasted five innings due to the 10-run margin rule. The Falcons’ bats were on fire from the beginning, racking up eight runs in the first inning, and Ronan couldn’t catch up, despite 2-for-2 hitting from Ashleigh Lynch and Kendra Starkel. Samantha Colman, who pitched all three games for the Maidens, added an RBI.
In a semifinal matchup with the Lady Bulldogs Friday evening, Payge Delaurenti led the Maidens’ charge with four RBIs and a double, and Colman and Starkel each drove in two runs on the way to Ronan’s 13-8 victory.
With freshman phenomenon Colman in the circle, beating Eureka in the tournament opener was no problem for Ronan. Colman allowed the Lady Lions only three hits, and behind four singles and an RBI from Ashleigh Lynch, the Maidens won 5-0. Delaurenti and Jasmine Bocksnick added two hits each in the contest.
