ARLEE — After losing to the Charlo Vikings a couple of weeks back, the Warriors made a pact. They knew they weren’t contenders for playoffs but they set a goal to win their last three games. On Friday night, they made good on that deal.
Zach Tameler led his team with 216 rushing yards, 34 carries and four touchdowns in the Warriors’ win over the Victor Pirates, 54-50.
“Zach is relentless. He’s a heck of a runner,” head coach Mike Rogers said.
Before Friday’s win, the Warriors also defeated Darby and Seeley to seal three wins.
“They are a dedicated group,” Rogers said. “They could have (given) up on the season after they knew playoffs were not possible, but they didn’t.”
The match against Victor also marked the last game played by seniors on the team.
“I told (the seniors), “This is the last game of your high school career — make it memorable,”” Rogers said. “And they did and got the job done. Overall they are just a great bunch of kids. I’m glad I was part of their high school football career.”
The Warriors end their season 4-5 and in a three-way tie for fifth place in the Western C Conference.
