MONTANA — Five Valleys Special Olympics needs community members from the Bitterroot, Missoula, and Flathead Reservation areas to be coaches, unified partners, team helpers and event volunteers for the first ever Five Valleys Area Basketball Tournament and Special Olympics State Basketball.
Basketball season runs from August to November. Time commitment can be as little as a single day at the area basketball tournament or as much as being a player or coach. Special Olympics is all inclusive and has a spot for anyone who wants to be involved.
Special Olympics Montana is a state-wide non-profit organization that provides year-round sports training, athletic competition and health-related programming for individuals with intellectual disabilities. SOMT changes lives through the power of sport by encouraging and empowering people with intellectual disabilities, promoting acceptance for all and fostering communities of understanding and respect.
SOMT is an athlete-centered, family-based, volunteer-driven and sponsor-supported movement with 2,000 athletes registered in 121 programs from 65 Montana communities. Nearly 4,000 Montana volunteers help organize and host local, area and state level competitions.
