RONAN – Students involved with the Ronan Future Farmers of America generally hold a number of fundraisers throughout the school year to help cover travel expenses, but for their most recent fundraiser, they decided give back to the community.
During the month of December, the students have been selling alpine fir Christmas trees at Mountain West Co-op Cenex.
After raising more than $1,000, the group was left with 17 trees after the fundraiser, so given the holiday spirit, they donated the trees to the Ronan Bread Basket, which would then give them to those in need.
According to Ronan FFA Advisor Reese McAlpin, donating the trees to those in need teaches the students how important giving back is.
“It’s good for the students to learn how important it is to help others in the community, especially during the holiday times,” McAlpin said.
The Christmas tree fundraiser is a win-win, providing families with the traditional holiday symbol, while also benefiting 30 Ronan FFA students with the money they need to continue traveling to leadership workshops throughout the state.
“We’ve been doing this for a few years,” McAlpin said. “I think it’s a good thing for the community to donate what we don’t sell.”
He added the workshops help students build their careers in agriculture.
