FRENCHTOWN — The Polson Lady Pirates and Mission-Arlee-Charlo softball teams battled to an extra inning 2-2 tie during the Frenchtown Invitational last Saturday afternoon.
Both teams have experienced phenomenal success this season. MAC entered into Saturday’s non-conference match with a 13-1 overall season and a seven-game win streak. The Lady Pirates boasted an unblemished 11-0 overall season record.
MAC took a 2-0 lead with back-to-back doubles by Liev Smith and Haylie Smith in the top of the third inning.
In the bottom of the sixth, with one out and a runner on second, Lady Pirate Lexie Orien blasted a two-run homer over the left-field fence to even the game score up 2-2. After eight innings, the game ended due to time constraints and was recorded as a tie.
Saturday’s eight-inning extravaganza was uncommon for both teams who have routinely won by the mercy-run-rule and haven’t had to play many seven-inning games this season. The modest 2-2 score wasn’t very indicative of the potential offensive fire power each team possesses. Both teams came into the day having outscored their previous opponents.
In the circle for MAC, the right-handed hurler Kooper Page stymied the Lady Pirates, striking out 12 batters in eight innings, walking two and allowing two runs on six hits.
Katelynne Druyvestein matched her counterpart with the Lady Pirate ace going eight innings allowing seven hits and two runs while striking out six and walking one.
