Lady Pirates stay undefeated, beat Maidens 15-2

RONAN — The Polson Lady Pirates were energized by eight runs in the fifth inning, which powered them to a 15-2 win over the hosting Ronan Maidens on Tuesday, April 20.
Maiden Kiara Sherman closed the gap 2-1 in the bottom half of the second inning with a leadoff home run. In the third inning, with a runner on base, Lexie Orien hit a home run, pushing the Polson lead to 4-1. The Lady Pirates, in the bottom half of the third, saw their lead cut in half 4-2 by a Haylie Webster leadoff home run.
With two outs and two runners on base in the fourth inning, the Lady Pirates added another three runs when Orien launched her second long ball of the day, extending the Polson lead to 7-2.
At the plate, in the top half of the fifth, the Lady Pirates would cycle through their entire batting roster, scoring eight runs on six hits. Unfortunately for Ronan, the Maiden batters couldn’t muster any more runs in the fifth inning, which ended the game in a mercy rule 15-2 loss.
Lady Pirate Katelyne Druyvestein got the win in the circle. Druyvestein allowed just two runs on three hits while striking out six batters.
It was a rough day for Ronan senior pitcher Macao Jackson as she fell to 2-4 on the season. In five innings, she gave up 15 runs on 14 hits, while striking out seven batters.
Orien finished the game with five RBIs, a double and two home runs. McKenna Hanson had two RBIs, while Kobbey Smith and Mossey Kaulley each had three RBIs for the Lady Pirates.
The Mission Valley rivals will meet again on May 18 in Polson.
